The evening will share the results of weekly sessions that focus on connection, routine and enjoyment, rather than performance or technical ability.
Led by local singer-songwriter Amanda St John, the showcase will mimic the weekly sessions on a bigger stage. The group will perform the songs we all know and love and demonstrate how singing can bring such joy to life.
Singing together helps people living with dementia to stay engaged, supporting memory through repetition and by providing a shared activity that feels relaxed and social.
The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Leah Kirkpatrick, said, "The Forget-Me-Notes singing group has proven to be a very successful initiative. The weekly sessions bring so much happiness and really help to reduce isolation for our residents living with dementia."
The Forget Me Notes is organised by Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council in partnership with Live Music Now. It is open to anyone living with dementia, with no singing experience required. Sessions are free and take place every Friday from 10.30am to 12noon in The Courtyard Theatre and finish with tea, coffee and conversation.
For those who simply love to sing, The Courtyard Theatre also hosts The Courtyard Choir every Tuesday from 7pm to 8pm. Open to all and completely free, it’s a welcoming space to enjoy music, meet new friends and be part of a vibrant local choir.
