Celebrating the Sister Cities Youth Exchange

The Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Henry Cushinan welcomed this year's Sister Cities Youth Exchange Programme participants, their families and Gilbert, Arizona exchange partners to a Welcome BBQ at Theatre at the Mill on Monday 6 July 2026. The programme provides young people with the opportunity to share cultural perspectives, make new friends and build lasting international connections while acting as ambassadors for the Borough.

This year's participants, Aodhan McGahon, Sara Bell and Caitlin Doherty, travelled to Gilbert, Arizona, from 7–29 June 2026 before returning to Northern Ireland with their exchange partners, Allie Thivierge, Mackenzie Redford and Maya Dykman, who are staying in the Borough until 20 July 2026. During the evening, participants shared highlights from their exchange before receiving a certificate and personalised hoodie from the Mayor in recognition of their successful completion of the programme.
