As part of this scheme three local play parks, The Diamond, Rathcoole; King’s Park, Newtownabbey; and The Sovereign Centre, Rathfern have officially reopened following extensive refurbishment works and the installation of brand‑new play equipment.
To mark the occasion, Deputy Mayor Councillor Julie Gilmour, welcomed pupils from local schools to the parks, where she officially unveiled the upgraded facilities.
Councillor Gilmour praised the new look play parks, saying: “These upgraded play parks are a real asset to our communities and a fantastic boost for local families. They provide bright, welcoming spaces where children can play, explore and build friendships. Investing in places like these strengthens our communities and ensures every child has access to safe, inclusive play opportunities.”
The revitalised parks offer safe, accessible and inclusive spaces designed to inspire active play, imagination and social connection.
