PARS (Physical Activity Referral Scheme)

PARS (Physical Activity Referral Scheme) is a 12 week programme offering participants a positive introduction to getting active with the help of one of our suitably qualified fitness instructors. The programme is usually group based however 1-2-1 sessions are also available.


How can I get on the Programme?

To access the programme, you need to be referred by your GP or qualified health professional and must meet the eligibility criteria.


Where is the Programme Available?

PARS is available across all five of our leisure centres; Antrim Forum, Ballyearl, Crumlin, Sixmile and the Valley.

What are the Benefits?

The Programme offers a range of physical activity and exercise opportunities including gym sessions, swimming and fitness classes. On completion of the 12 week programme, clients can avail of a concession membership with access to all six leisure sites (including Allen Park) at a cost of £16 per month for 12 months, followed by £20 per month in year 2 and £25 per month thereafter.

Criteria

Clients must be: 
19 years or over and inactive (not currently meeting the PA guidelines of 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous activity per week) and motivated to change.

In addition, only the clients who fit within the following criteria should be referred:
Obese (with a BMI of ≥ 25kg/m2 and < 40kg/ m2) and have one or more of below:
-          Hypertension
-          Hyperlipidaemia
-          Impaired glucose levels or diabetes
-          Family history of heart disease
-           Asthma, bronchitis or COPD 
-          Musculoskeletal conditions
-          Mild or moderate mental health conditions
