Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council was delighted to host the first ever Silver Summer Scheme in July 2025. The scheme invited residents aged 50 years and over to relax, reconnect and celebrate summer. The week had fun, friendship and creativity at the centre.
Activities during the week included Nordic walking, planting, boccia, litter pick, live entertainment and craft workshops.
Over 100 people joined in over the course of the week and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. One attendee commented ‘it was a good event, very happy it was organised when classes have stopped over summer’. Another praised the initiative stating "The team were very enthusiastic. There is definitely a gap in summer especially for those without families".
