Community Safety Wardens Scheme

Who are the Community Safety Wardens?

Community Safety Wardens are an accredited patrol, delivering a high visibility on-street presence across Antrim and Newtownabbey. Wardens can be spotted wearing clearly branded, yellow hi visibility uniforms with ‘Community Safety Warden’ displayed on the back.

The Community Safety Wardens will work with the community and local businesses to:

Reduce fear of crime amongst residents
Discourage crime, low-level disorder, and anti-social behaviour
Work to make public spaces feel safer
Engage with local businesses and Community Groups in relation to community safety issues.

The Wardens will work to build a rapport and trust within the community and to ensure that the Borough remains a safe place to live.

When will they patrol?

Patrols will be delivered across 4 days each week; Core coverage includes patrols every Friday and Saturday 3pm-11pm across the Borough.

The remaining 2 patrol days will be Thursday and Sunday evenings, however this is subject to change depending on Wardens attendance at community engagements and demand of resources.

The scheme remains flexible to ensure that responses can be implemented to issues of concern within the Borough.
How many Wardens are there?

The Community Safety Warden Scheme consists of four Wardens. The Scheme will operate as two teams of two.
Where will they be?

Team 1- Primarily covering Antrim District Electoral Areas (Antrim, Airport, Dunsilly)

Team 2- Primarily covering Newtownabbey District Electoral Areas (Ballyclare, Glengormley, Macedon, Threemilewater)

Deployment of Wardens will remain flexible to respond to areas of concern and demand.

You will also find Community Safety Wardens at various Community Engagement Events across the Borough, with the purpose of engaging with residents, and hearing their concerns.
