International Women’s Day is a global day of action since 1911 that promotes women’s rights, celebrates women’s achievements and envisions a safe and equitable future for all.
According to the World Economic Forum, it will take approximately five generations, or until 2158 to achieve full gender equality. This year's theme Accelerate Action is a call to increase momentum and urgency in addressing the systemic barriers faced by women and girls in both professional and personal contexts. Step forward in solidarity and join us in the fight for a world that is inclusive, equitable, and free from bias and discrimination.
Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is proud to support International Women’s Day 2025 by hosting this event to unite our colleagues, service providers, experts and community members in promoting gender equality.
So how do we Accelerate Action? We can start by making our world safer for women and girls, by challenging the harmful behaviours that create abusive and dangerous environments and raising awareness of the foundations of gender-based violence.
