Period products are essential items for personal care which address a normal biological need. From May 2024 period products were made freely available to everyone who needs to use them in public libraries (including mobile libraries) across Northern Ireland!

Council's Free Period Products Initiative

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is committed to supporting the health and wellbeing of women and girls in our community. We are pleased to announce that free period products are now available at various community sites across the borough. This initiative aims to ensure that no one in our community faces period poverty and that everyone has access to essential hygiene products.

Community Sites Offering Free Disposable Period Products

You can find free disposable period products at the following locations:

  • Northern Ireland Centenary Centre Ballyduff
  • Dunanney Centre
  • Lillian Bland Pavilion
  • Mossley Pavilion
  • Muckamore Community Centre
  • Stiles Community Centre
  • Greystone Community Centre
  • Neillsbrook Community Centre
  • Rathenraw Community Centre
  • Parkhall Community Centre
  • Ballyclare Town Hall

Additional Support through Hardship Funding

In addition to providing disposable products at our community sites, we have utilised DfC Hardship Funding to support local baby banks. Reusable period product packs have been distributed to:

  • Antrim Baby Bank (Castle Mall Shopping Centre)
  • Glengormley Baby Bank (Glengormley Methodist Church)
  • Ballyclare Baby Bank (Baby Basics, Ballynure)

These reusable packs offer a sustainable and long-term solution for individuals and families in need.
