The Rowan is Northern Ireland’s only specialist Sexual Assault Referral Centre, providing 24/7 support, care, and expert forensic services to women, men, and children who have experienced sexual abuse, assault, or rape.

Located at Antrim Area Hospital, it offers a safe and compassionate environment where survivors can access immediate help and longer-term support, ensuring they are not alone on their journey to recovery.

The Booklet

This booklet has been developed to raise awareness of The Rowan and the vital services it provides. It is designed to help professionals and community partners understand referral pathways, make informed, trauma-sensitive decisions, and ensure that children and adults affected by sexual abuse receive the specialist care they need as early as possible.

Violence against women and girls is a systemic and deep-rooted problem in our society. It is a problem that is hidden in plain sight and every day we see how it is affecting the lives of women and girls, wherever they learn, live, and work.

Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) is a seven year programme mandated by the Northern Ireland Executive which will address the whole range of gender-based violence, abuse and harm which is disproportionately experienced by women and girls, and which is rooted in gender inequality.
