There is a long tradition of celebrating Royal Jubilees and other special occasions with the lighting of beacons.  More than 2000 beacons will be lit simultaneously on 2 June 2022 across the UK and the Council is delighted to be playing part of this celebration to mark the start of a weekend to mark the remarkable achievement of 70 years of Her Majesty’s reign.

The beacons will enable local communities, individuals and organisations to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II as part of the official Platinum Jubilee Weekend of celebrations from 2 to 5 June 2022.

As the sun sets  across the UK and the Commonwealth, individual pipers and pipe bands are being asked to play ‘Diu Regnare’ written by Piper Stuart Liddell, as their personal tribute to Her Majesty the Queen.
