Public Consultation on Supplementary Planning Guidance

The Council has made a commitment in the Plan Strategy (PS) to prepare Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) to support the implementation of the Local Development Plan, and the policies contained within the PS.

SPG represents non-statutory planning guidance. It is intended to be read in conjunction with the existing planning policy framework, most notably the Strategic Planning Policy Statement (SPPS) for Northern Ireland and the Local Development Plan 2030: Plan Strategy. SPG does not introduce any new policy but instead will be treated as a material consideration in the consideration of planning applications.

The Council has now produced SPG on Affordable Housing to support the application of the Affordable Housing policies set out in the PS.  Notice is hereby given that we are publishing the SPG on Affordable Housing, this can be viewed via the link below, from 11 August 2025 for an 8-week period of public consultation:

Comments must be received by no later than 5pm on 6 October 2025 and respondents are strongly encouraged use the online consultation portal to submit any comments they may have.

Alternatively, responses can be made by email to forwardplanningteam@antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk or by post to the Planning Section, Mossley Mill, Carnmoney Road North, Newtownabbey, BT36 5QA.

Any comments received will then be assessed in respect of the need for potential amendments to the SPG, before a final version of the document is published.
