To support local sports clubs from across the Borough, we have launched a Sports Hardship Fund. This new grant scheme can be accessed by local sports clubs who have incurred additional costs in order to become Covid19 compliant. Sports clubs and sporting organisations will be able to apply for up to £1000 funding. Please refer to the Useful Downloads below for the Terms & Conditions, Guidance Notes and Frequently Asked Questions.

Please note: 

  1. Clubs applying for this grant must be based within the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough and must be able to demonstrate additional financial costs due to Covid –19.

  2. The Sports Hardship fund will only award one application per Sports Club

  3. Closing date is Friday 23 April at 12noon

  4. Purchases paid for in cash will not be accepted

  5. Sports Hardship Fund Timeline: 

Applications open 12 noon Thursday 1 April 2021
Applications submitted by 12 noon Friday 23 April 2021
Applications assessed/ scored  w/c 26 April 2021
Letter of Offer issued w/c 3 May 2021

Clubs who have received Council’s previous Sports Hardship funding are ineligible in this round.

Section B: Eligibility

Sports Clubs must be based withing the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough. Please list the facilities below that you own/lease or have a rental agreement.






Section C: Criteria

The Sports Hardship fund has been developed to help sport and physical recreation organisations meet their obligations, in particular fixed costs, which are no longer supported with revenue as a result of Covid19. 

The fund aims to cover expenditure on: 

  • Facility Hire i.e. block bookings 

  • Additional costs relating to Covid19 restrictions i.e. purchasing of additional equipment and sports kits.
