Work Experience 2025

Following last year’s successful pilot project, Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council is partnering with Workplus to offer a coordinated Work Experience Programme for post primary schools in the Borough. It has been designed to make work experience easier for everyone and let local pupils see the breadth of opportunities in their area – from multi-nationals to thriving micro-businesses.

The aim of the project is to connect employers with future talent and build transversal skills in our young people.

The Mayor of Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council, Cllr Neil Kelly, said the work experience project was designed to connect employers with local schools, and he encouraged all businesses in the Borough to get involved.

He said, “This coordinated project is a great opportunity for employers to connect with future talent and it has been designed to make work experience easier for everyone.  It is a deeply collaborative approach, and we believe it will help nurture connections between schools and businesses in the local area.”

Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council have partnered with early talent experts Workplus to deliver the project.

Richard Kirk, CEO of Workplus, said, “We are pleased to be working with the council to offer this coordinated, collaborative project. Work experience has short term and long-term benefits for both the employer and young person. Benefits from last year’s project included new connections, increased awareness and confidence, better knowledge of opportunities, and also led to pupils finding part-time jobs and feeling better equipped for interviews.”

The project involves both mainstream and special schools in the Borough.

Employers can register their interest here before 31st January 2025.

Last year’s pilot project was shortlisted in UK-wide public sector awards and the Council is hoping to continue to build on its success.
