Nominations for the 2023 Antrim and Newtownabbey Sports Awards are now closed. The Sports Awards will take place on Wednesday 15 November at Theatre at The Mill, this prestigious sporting event will celebrate success, commitment and dedication from some of the athletes and sports representatives within our Borough.

If you have nominated a team, club or individual and if you are successful, you will be notified if they have been shortlisted soon.

Award Category - Gallery of Sporting Legends

Antrim and Newtownabbey Gallery of Sporting Legends honours individuals who have reached the pinnacle of their chosen sport. They recognise those individuals within the Borough who have competed at the highest level in their field.

We pay tribute to exceptional athletes like Stephen Daley, Eugene Laverty, Willie John McBride, A.P McCoy, and Liz-Anne Walsh, among others, who are held in high regard and feature in our Gallery of Sporting Legends.

We are now accepting nominations for the Gallery of Sporting Legends, which celebrates the remarkable achievements of our Borough's sportsmen and sportswomen.

To be considered for induction, nominees must meet the following criteria:

- They must have retired from their sport.
- They must have excelled in their respective sport.
- They must possess a quantifiable international record of achievement.*
- They must have achieved international recognition.
- They must have a demonstrable association with the Borough.

*Or competed at the highest level within their sport (evidence based upon governing body submission).

The closing date is Friday 20 October, 12 noon.

All nominees should either be born, currently reside, have previously lived, or have strong connections with the Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough.

We encourage you to submit your nominations and help us recognise the outstanding sporting talent within our community.

Conditions of Entry
- Nominations must be on the official entry form. Nomination forms must be fully completed
- The decision of the Antrim and Newtownabbey Sports Awards Working Group is final and no correspondence will be entered into in respect of that decision
- Antrim and Newtownabbey Sports Awards Working group reserves the right to amend the nature and/or criteria of this award process at anytime
- Nominees must agree to allow use of their nomination information for publicity and display purposes
- Nominations for Gallery of Sporting Legends close on 20 October 2023, 12noon.

Tips on how to submit a nomination

The criteria which the committee look for include achievement, determination, commitment, enthusiasm, integrity, honesty and flair. The following points are a guide to submitting a nomination.
- Outline the nominee’s sporting background, achievements and reasons for the nomination
- Ensure the nominee fits the criteria stated
- Include any statistical information which is relevant to the nominee for example, rankings or records held
