New Mayor and Deputy Mayor appointed at Antrim and Newtownabbey Annual Meeting

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council held its Annual Meeting this evening (Wednesday 1 June) at the Theatre at The Mill

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council held its Annual Meeting this evening (Wednesday 1 June) at the Theatre at The Mill. At the meeting Members elected Councillor Stephen Ross of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) as Mayor and Councillor Leah Smyth of the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) as Deputy Mayor for the incoming year.

As the First Citizen of the Borough, Councillor Ross represents the Threemilewater District Electoral Area and will serve as Mayor until the end of the Council term in 2023. He will be joined by Councillor Smyth, who represents the Antrim District Electoral Area.

The new Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Stephen Ross said:

“It is an honour and privilege for me to be elected as Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey. I look forward to serving the people of the Borough during my term in office, and I would like to personally thank my colleague Councillor Billy Webb for his influence and support during the past year.”

The Annual Meeting also confirmed the new Chair and Vice-Chair of the following Committees.

Community Planning

Chair: Councillor Julie Gilmour (Alliance)

Vice-Chair: Alderman Julian McGrath (Alliance)

Vice-Chair: Councillor Norrie Ramsay (UUP)

Planning Committee

Chair: Alderman Fraser Agnew (UUP)

Vice-Chair: Councillor Jeannie Archibald-Brown (DUP)

Policy and Governance Committee

Chair: Councillor Mathew Magill (DUP)

Vice-Chair: Alderman Mandy Girvan (DUP)
