Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council Logo

Antrim and Newtownabbey established a Climate Change Working Group in 2020 in response to the climate crisis. The remit of this group was to explore ways in which we can mitigate the crisis and protect our citizens from the existing and future effects of climate change.

Climate change is now within the remit of the Waste and Sustainability department. There is a dedicated team of Climate, Waste and Sustainability Officers who are developing, coordinating and ensuring delivery of actions across a range of programmes and projects to support the delivery of the Council’s aspirations in relation to Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability.

To reflect this change, the Climate Change Working Group is now known as the Sustainability Working Group. It has representatives from different parties, who work alongside Council staff, to work on Climate action within the wider context of Sustainability. This ensures that objectives are aligned, encompassing and reflect the varying priorities.
