Sustrans Gold Award

The Sustrans School Mark is an award scheme that can help to transform schools, with happier, healthy pupils and quieter, safer streets.

Young people love to be active, so when the whole school joins in, great habits are formed, and the school run can become just that - a run, walk, scoot or cycle to school.

Schools can progress through the Bronze, Silver and Gold School Mark awards. Gold is awarded to a school that has demonstrated ongoing commitment to promoting active and sustainable travel over several years, which has led to significant and lasting organisational, cultural and behavioural changes.

Fairview PS have been working towards their Gold School Mark award as part of their ongoing engagement in the Active School Travel Programme delivered by Sustrans. Funded by Public Health Agency & Department of Infrastructure, the AST programme works with over 340 schools across Northern Ireland, helping pupils, families and staff to leave the car behind, and take to their feet or two wheels to get to school. It can lead to increased physical activity levels, fewer cars around the school gates, and a safer and more pleasant journey for everyone. Fairview PS become just the 3rd school in Northern Ireland to receive the prestigious Gold award - and the first outside of Belfast.
