Council pledges support for White Ribbon Charter

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Mayor Alderman John Smyth and Councillors, have signed Women’s Aid (ABCLN) White Ribbon Charter pledging to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women. 
 

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council’s Mayor Alderman John Smyth and Councillors, have signed Women’s Aid (ABCLN) White Ribbon Charter pledging to never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women. 

Mayor, Alderman Smyth said: “With one in four women experiencing domestic violence in their lives, this issue impacts all of us. We must stand up and be counted, and challenge the attitudes and behaviours that lead to male violence against women.” 

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council is committed to providing a safe place for anyone affected by domestic violence to access information and get help safely and confidentially.  As a Safe Employer with Platinum Workplace Charter Status, we are committed to addressing domestic violence and its effects on the workplace and the wider community.

Women’s Aid’s (ABCLN) Chief Executive, Rosemary Magill said: “The onus to address domestic violence is on all of us. By signing the White Ribbon Charter Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Councillors have pledged to play their part.”
