We're Celebrating Compost Awareness Week

FREE compost giveaway during Compost Awareness Week.

We are celebrating International Compost Awareness Week (6 - 11 May 2019) with a compost giveaway at our Household Recycling Centres.

The giveaway will commence on Monday 6 May, and continue while stocks last, during normal opening times. One free bag of compost per person will be given out to residents coming to recycle any household items such as garden waste, batteries, scrap metal, wood or even electrical items at any of the Council’s five Household Recycling Centres during compost week.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Paul Michael, commented; “The compost is made using the food and garden waste that is collected from residents brown bins and from the Household Recycling Centres. Composting via your brown bin is really good for both people and the environment. By composting you help to cut down the amount of waste being buried in local landfill sites and releasing dangerous greenhouse gases which contribute to climate change.”

To find out what you can recycle or for more information on brown bins and home composting visit www.antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk/bins

Don’t forget there will be a limited supply of compost available, so arrive early to claim your free bag!
