Council congratulates NI Women Football Team

Following a motion which was proposed by Councillor Alison Bennington and seconded by Councillor Vera McWilliam, the Council has congratulated Northern Ireland Women Football Team on their success in qualifying for the Euro 22 tournament.  

 

Following a motion which was proposed by Councillor Alison Bennington and seconded by Councillor Vera McWilliam, the Council has congratulated Northern Ireland Women Football Team on their success in qualifying for the Euro 22 tournament.  

The motion read: 

"This Council recognises and celebrates the historic achievement of the 

Northern Ireland’s Women Football Team in qualifying for Euro 2022, resolves 

to write to the Irish Football Association to congratulate the team on their 

fantastic achievement and engages with teams across the Borough on how 

women’s football can be further developed. " 

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery said;

“We were all thrilled with the recent success of Northern Ireland Women in making history by qualifying for their first major international tournament. I can’t wait to cheer them on next summer, and have no doubt they will inspire the next generation of young women to take to the pitch and play the people’s game.”
