To commemorate International Nurses Day on Wednesday 12 May, the Council will light up their civic buildings blue to pay homage to the selfless work carried out by nurses and midwives in responding to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nurses and midwives across the Nation have shown immense courage and resilience over the past year and this is an opportunity to applaud them for their invaluable service in extreme and unknown circumstances.
Wednesday 12 May is very significant, being the birthday of perhaps the world’s most famous nurse, Florence Nightingale.

This year’s theme is “Nurses: A Voice to Lead.” we seek to show how nursing will look into the future as well how the profession will transform the next stage of healthcare.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Jim Montgomery said “I am pleased the Council are supporting this initiative. There are not enough words to thank our nurses and midwives who in normal circumstances do an amazing job, and when faced with COVID-19 they have selflessly rose to the challenge and done a phenomenal job in keeping our nation safe and well. I would personally like to thank all the nurses and midwives in our Borough for the work they carry out each and every day”.
