Spirit of Christmas Awards 2023

Help spread some Christmas cheer and identify the amazing work that is carried out in our communities, as Council invites you to nominate for the ‘Spirit of Christmas Awards 2023’. These awards aim to promote Christmas Spirit across the Borough and recognise the efforts made by local businesses, schools, churches, community and voluntary Groups at this special time of year.

The awards will fall under the following categories:

  • Light Up Award – The wider community working together to create the best lit street/town/village within the Borough.
  • Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree Award - Best programme of festive entertainment within a business or community setting.
  • Reason for the Season Award - The most festive school, church or community facility.     
  • Making an Entrance Award - The best dressed entrance feature or shop front.     
  • Traditional Christmas Award - Recognising acts of goodwill during the festive season.     
  • Eco Angels Award - The best festive initiative or event that demonstrates a commitment to a more sustainable Christmas.

Mayor of Antrim and Newtownabbey, Councillor Mark Cooper said: “I am delighted the Council is running these awards and recognising the great work carried out throughout our communities.I look forward to seeing the entries and I would encourage you to fill out the simple nomination form and help spread some festive joy this Christmas. I will also be selecting my favourite festive initiative or display to receive the ‘Mayor’s Award’".

Nominations for the ‘Spirit of Christmas Awards 2023’ will open online on Monday 13 November 2023 at antrimandnewtownabbey.gov.uk/spirit-of-christmas and will close on Friday 8 December 2023 at 4pm. Winners for each category will be invited to an awards presentation at The Oriel Gallery, Clotworthy House on Tuesday 19 December 2023.
