Consultation on Local Development Plan continues

Over 120 written responses were received to the recent public consultation on Antrim and Newtownabbey’s draft Plan Strategy for its new Local Development Plan a key framework for guiding decisions about how the Borough will grow and develop in a sustainable fashion in the coming years.

This included representations submitted by Government Departments, other statutory partners and developers as well as comments by residents and local groups,

Copies of all the responses submitted are now available to inspect at the Council’s offices in Mossley Mill and Antrim Civic Centre and they can also be viewed online on the Council’s website.

In making the responses available the Council is now embarking on the next phase of public consultation which is to allow everyone with an interest to review the detailed comments made and to provide their views on any site specific policy matters raised as a result of the consultation.

As a consequence an 8 week consultation period running until Friday 6 December is now being provided by the Council to allow for comments to be made on the representations.

Speaking about the next phase of consultation, Chair of the Planning Committee, Alderman Philip Brett, said:

“I would like to thank everyone who responded during the consultation on the Council’s Local Development Plan 2030 - draft Plan Strategy. Now it is important that interested parties have the opportunity to look at and comment on what people said about our Plan as they may have further views.

"This process of ongoing pubic participation will help ensure that the policy direction outlined in the Plan Strategy for the sustainable development of our Borough is considered sound when it comes forward for Independent Examination next year.”
